Understanding the difference between normal adolescent behavior and actual problematic issues can be difficult and confusing. Helping parents decipher the symptoms and behaviors of their children, and whether they point to underlying emotional issues, our therapeutic counseling is designed to offer adolescent individuals a supportive environment in which to deal with stress and emotional upheaval.
From peer pressure to gender identity, bulling, substance abuse, and teen depression, this can impair a teen’s ability to function and socialize normally. A teen who is depressed may lose interest in their appearance or hygiene, be extra sensitive to criticism or failure, withdraw from their family and friends, be pessimistic about the future, or have a preoccupation with death. If left untreated, depression can lead to suicidal thoughts.
Symptoms of significant stress often include:
- Reluctance or resistance to experience new situations or environments
- Unusual levels of dependence
- Difficulty sleeping
- Elevated levels of aggression
- Reduced impulse control
- Trouble regulating behavior and emotion, often overreacting to everyday situations
Working through the stress and feeling of inadequacy, guilt, helplessness and anger, our treatment is to facilitate healthy self esteem, acceptance, and emotional strengthening; allowing your child to flourish.
